Dear members,

Since our last newsletter, the AFMI Council has not been idle. During our June meeting, we analysed the files and shared the tasks between each of us. We will be busy repre- senting you well.

I start with a very important subject : the protection of your personal data. You surely heard of Law 25, Act to modernize legislative provisions as regards the protection of personal information, passed by government and falling under the responsibility of the Access Commission to better protect your personal information. This law imposes obligations on organization that collect, use or disclose personal information, and ours is one of them. By becoming a member of the Association, you entrust us with personal details about yourself. We need to establish the links between each family (we do genealogy).

André Paquet, our vice-president, has accepted responsibility for the application of this law. He prepares a document to frame our obligations towards you and will make it known upon acceptance by the Council.

Alain, our webmaster, is working on updating our website. Here, also, Law 25 requires us to review the forms made available to you to include your consent to disclose your information to us. Go quickly and browse to appreciate this transformation, see or review everything that Alain regularly adds to better inform you (famillesmichaud.org).

Our database also needs to be refreshed. Sylvain, in collaboration with our genealogist Jean-Eudes, will work on this file. We will need your help with this task. Have you already shared recent data regarding your entire family? It is important for an association like ours. We may have your ancestors in our bank, but what about your descendants? It is rare for a member to announce the wedding of a child or the arrival of a grandchild. Just these two events add two people to your tree, in our database. Please get your pens or email to let us know about these additions. You can see how to do it on our website.

In closing, on behalf of the Council I wish you a happy holiday season. I also wish you happiness, joy, seren- ity, but above all, health to enjoy it well.

Madelaine Dubé-Michaud, president (1585)
